Antiviral drugs may help fight Bird Flu
|
In the first days of the disease, it is recommended to take the same antiviral drugs as the ones taken for common influenza—interferon-gamma, arbidol, remantadin, algirem, grippferon, cycloferon and amixin. The World Health Organization also recommends oseltamivir (marketed as Tamiflu) and zanamivir (marketed as Relensa).
Drugs containing salicylic acid are contraindicated for treatment of Bird flu the preparations.
Current studies confirm that prescription of medicines, developed for human influenza strains will also be effective for Bird flu infection in humans. However, there is a possibility that influenza strains might become immune to these drugs thus rendering such medications ineffective. It was discovered that an isolated virus is sensitive to amantadine and rimantadine, which inhibit the reproduction of type A flu virus and are administered in human flu therapy.
